R. China. The total area of Harbin is 53,068 km2, including 4,272 km2 urban area. With vast territory, rich soil, ample summer rains and fresh air, Harbin is the important base for production of commodity grain in China and an ideal location for setting up food processing operations and agricultural businesses. The rich soil, called "black earth" is one of the most nutrient rich in China, the best for cultivating food and textile-related crops. Harbin owns a great number of first class colleges and universities in China, such as the famous Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Engineering University and other scientific research institutions.
